Photo Friday And Moments Of The Week...

My Heart Belongs To a Bichon Frise

One day a Bichon came my way
And I knew from the start-
That precious little ball of fur
Would steal away my heart.

He fills my world with sunshine-
He has such loving ways,
I can't imagine life without
A Bichon in my days.

Intelligent and playful,
Such an easy friend to love-
My Bichon Frise is to me
A blessing from above.

Thanks For Making Me Look Stupid Moment...
My husband and I attended a Basic Pistol Shooting Class recently. The class consisted of 2 instructors, 4 women and 10 men. At the beginning of class they asked us to state our name and why we were taking the class. I went first, stated my name and said " I'm here to learn to shoot a gun." Really that was true but I did have other reasons for wanting to learn to shoot, I just didn't go into detail. Everyone else went into detail, for instance "I have a 6 year old and I want to learn to shoot a gun so that I can protect my child." "My husband drives a truck, I'm home alone with my children." And one lady in class was either drunk, high or over medicated, I'm not sure which but I was sure to be on opposite ends of the shooting range from her. And then there was my husband, "I'm just here with her." Nice!!! I did feel a bit stupid for not going into detail but it is what it is and we were all there for basically the same thing.

Channeling Our Inner Martha...

My sister asked me if I'd lend a hand and help her make some Meringue Swirls that she saw on Martha Bakes. We ran out one afternoon to pick up a few of the items we needed to make them. People! Vanilla Beans are expensive and now I know why. Later in the week we got together to channel our inner Martha, we all have that...right? Little did my sister know that I was just going to assist and let her do most of the work, she's always a little leery about trying new things in the kitchen. But my theory is that if it doesn't work the first time, you have two choices, simply try it again or ditch it! Our youngest sister also stopped by to join in on the fun. We got busy making the Meringue Swirls while trying to get pictures (how ever do you people do this) so that we could run out for a quick lunch. Who knew that they had to bake.....for what seemed like forever. However after a lot of measuring, egg separating, laughing, mixing and baking we did make it to lunch, just a little late.

They turned out perfect, crisp on the outside, soft on the inside just as the recipe stated. They tasted like toasted marshmallows and colored your teeth and tongue blue. But when I stored them in a covered dish they became extra sticky. I've done a little research but have yet to find the best way to store them, anyone? By the way, don't you just LOVE my egg separator?

Crocheting For A Cause...

Several months ago I started crocheting hats for babies to donate to a local hospital. At this time I have not done any research to see if it is even possible. I do know that you can donate the hats to several different organizations but I have also not contacted any of them...yet!
Well, it just so happens that my daughter has a friend who noticed on Facebook that she was also crocheting baby hats and asked if she'd be interested in donating some of them to this organization. My daughter called me to see if I'd be interested and of course she knew I would be! My daughters friend gave us an idea of the sizes that would be needed for the baby hats and we started crocheting away. OMG some of the hats are so small. I can't even imagine the grief these families go though and I am so sorry that my daughters friend and family had to go through such an ordeal. I do have to admit that is really hard to think about who they are for (I hope you understand what I mean by this) but I am happy to help out even if in such a small way. At this time we have two dozen little hats to donate and more are in the works. We should be delivering them sometime this week. Here is a picture of the ones I've completed and Yes, I know that I need to find a color other than blue for the baby boy hats. And now that I'm looking at the picture the girl hats too! Hopefully, my daughters are different colors.

Photo Friday...

I came home from work on Wednesday feeling fine, tidied the house a bit, made the husband and I our usual WW Wednesday dinner and some garlic toast. A few hours later I was not feeling so great, I think I may have gotten a touch of food poisoning. I had a headache and a queasy stomach Wednesday evening and most of the day on Thursday. I will most likely stop our WWW dinners for awhile, I'll worry that it might happen again, do you ever do that? I ate light on Thursday and today I'm feeling a little better. : )
Our new little tree that we the husband planted a couple of months ago seems to be doing great and the leaves are the prettiest red/orange color. Now I know why they call it an "Autumn Blaze Maple Tree".

I'm off to the salon for a cut and color today.
After that, lunch with a sister.
The husband wants to put the
Christmas lights on the house this weekend.
I'm so not ready!
Enjoy your weekend.

Home Alarms And Personal Safety...

Our home alarm system has alarmed us twice in the last few months. Both times it has been the alarm in our detached garage and both times it was early morning hours. The first time they tried to steal a leaf blower but the alarm sounded so they ran and left it out beside the garage. The husband picked it up the next morning. The second time our overhead door was up, the husband thinks that some signal just made the door go up. Me, I don't know or care what made it happen but I do not like it...one bit! I will have to say that I am happy the husband suggested getting an alarm system and that it works very well. Good idea on his part!
We live in a decent neighborhood and have for 28 years, we've never had problems and up until the first incident I was fine but now I'm not sleeping well. And while I never though I'd ever want a gun in the house I told the husband that I wanted to purchase a gun, go to a shooting range and learn to shoot. I've only shot one other time but it was years ago. Soon after our talk we purchased a gun, went to a shooting range and signed up for a class which we will be taking soon. He doesn't need it, I do so he's going along with me. In the meantime I've been learning all I can about this gun before shooting it. Now it may sound as if I'm going a little overboard but with all the crazy going on here and in the world today I want and need to be able to protect myself.
Yesterday we had the opportunity to go into the woods to shoot a few rounds. After some instruction from my husband and my brother-in-law I got to shoot four different guns. One was a little to big but I hit the target with it a couple of times, the other three fit me fine and I think I've found a favorite! Yes, I was a little nervous at first but it didn't take me long to get comfortable shooting at the target. Both my husband and my brother-in-law were surprised at how many time I hit said target and honestly, I was to but I was also proud of myself for doing so well on my first time shooting at a target. I think that this is not only going to make me feel more comfortable in my own home or while out and about but that it is also something I will enjoy learning. I loved the time we spent shooting in the woods and I plan to practice in the woods or at the range often. Practice makes perfect...RIGHT!!!

I know that a lot of people have issues with guns, so
I wonder, would you or would you
not use a gun for your own personal safety?

Photo Friday And Moments Of The Week...

A little road trip to Nashville, IN led us to a chainsaw carving shop. The carver is new at carving but we thought this guy was pretty awesome.

This Is Not Exactly What I Had In Mind Moment...
The trip that led us to the above was supposed to be a trip to Brown County to take pictures of the trees at the park during what was supposed to be the peak weekend this Autumn. I guess the husband had other ideas. Instead we walked around Nashville, IN  and had lunch at our favorite sandwich place. Not exactly what I had in mind, but its all good!

There was still plenty of green left on the trees so maybe I'll get
another chance at some pictures this weekend.
I hope you all have a good one.
