Recycled Plant Markers...

My sister, the one I hang out with a lot is a Gardener. I swear she could plant a rock and it would grow. She is mostly into flowers but she also has a small vegetable garden. Her flower garden covers the entire backside and one side of her house, its beautiful when in bloom. She also has small gardens out and about all over her yard. I'll have to get pictures next Spring/Summer when its in bloom. I don't even know how she remembers all the kinds of flowers she has as there are so many.
She's been looking for an expensive way to mark all her flowers for awhile now. Plant markers are expensive, especially when you need as many as she needs. We searched around but didn't really find anything affordable so we did what lots of people do these days and went to Pinterest. We found a few different ideas there and being the recycler that she is, she chose markers that were made from tin can lids. She had the lids and hangers, I had the number and letter punch sets and some sharpies for another project...that I'll get around to someday.
We were all set, had everything we needed so we got started on the plant markers. We practiced first, we've never used the punch sets before and just for the record its not as easy as it seems. I told her to write us a list of flower names so that we'd know what we were putting on the markers and she got so frustrated (because of all the flowers she has) that she couldn't remember all the names. Why do flowers have such strange names anyway? She got a short list together and we started punching, some of the abbreviations she chose made me LOL but I just went with it and punched the names she chose. We worked on them for most of the day and once she matches them up with all the labels from her flowers I'm sure we will have many more to make. She likes them, we think they are sort of rustic looking. We also like the sound they make when the wind blows them against the hanger. I'm happy that we got some practice with the punch sets, now I know what to expect when I get around to my project.

Here we are punching away. Deuce (my Bichon) did not like it, its very loud. It would probably be better to do this outdoors.

Busy Building Coffins...

My Granddaughter will be turning 5 soon and she is having a Monster High themed party. My daughter wanted to buy bags but I had the not so bright idea to build coffins from a pattern I found on Martha Stewarts site to hold the party favors. It seems that they are not that simple to build especially when you are building 30 of them. I feel like I've been working on them for weeks but its really only been a few hours here and there. They are all completed and ready to send off to my daughter to add Monster High stickers, fill with favors and close up with twine. I'm thinking that in the future I will just keep my ideas to myself. Coffin building IS NOT for me!

Kissing Ball...

It's finished and I love how is turned out. I hope to make a couple more in cream or white before Valentine's Day. Once you get the hang of making the roses they go really quick. One very important thing I learned while making these little roses. DO NOT roll up to tight. If you do they look terrible. No example to share as I tossed the bad ones. Also the lighting in my house is terrible so please excuse the coloring in the collage. A couple of the photos were taken at night with inside lights, the others were taken by a window in the sunlight...YES I said sunlight! : )  Unfortunately, it looks like we have more snow, ice and rain headed our way so it will probably be a few days before we see it again. I'd better go enjoy it for while I can. 

Winter Blues and 52-3...

Blah...Winter...Hurry up Spring. It been all dreay out around here for awhile now and once I get home from work I don't want to go back out into the cold so my photo for this week is an indoor photo. I've been trying to do something crafty once a week after work. This week I'm working on making a kissing ball. It took me a few times to get that little rose looking right and then my dear husband told me it looked like a cinnamon roll. Whatever...I think they look like little roses. What do you think?

It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year...

And I hope you are all having as much fun as I am. Not only have I been busy shopping and wrapping gifts. I've been to my Grandson's Christmas concert, decorated the house a bit, baked lots of cookies, peanut butter fudge and stained glass candy, made each of  my Grandbabies an owl Christmas ornament, had a holiday party with the girls in which we made Christmas trees out of two by fours and have been trying to keep up with Shimelle's JYC class and a CYH 2010 class over at Get It Scrapped . And yes I'm a bit behind but I'm loving both classes and learning quite a bit about taking holiday pictures. Oh and I got myself some fancy new Christmas shoes...long story...short...I purchased them to wear just for my daughter and she does not like them..LOL! I finished up my shopping today...gift cards...easy peasy, the gifts are all wrapped, the baking is done and now I plan to sit back and relax for a couple of days. : )

Tie-Dying...

Last weekend we got together to do a little tie-dying. I have never tie-dyed anything before and thought that within a few hours I would have something ready to wear. NOT! It takes forever from start to finish.

Grandchildren Are Awesome...

I managed to spend a little time with each of them this weekend. Lucky Nana I am : )
On Friday evening the Grandson and I made paper beads together. It took us about 4 hours to make 20 beads. I'm sure glad I don't have to make beads for a living because I'd go broke in no time at all.

On Sunday the husband and I meet up with my daughter and her family at Irish Fest. There wasn't much going on as it was the last day of the festival but I always enjoy spending time with the little one.

Gift Exchange 08...

This was actually the day before, we got together to make our goodies. I had to have this picture because I told my dear husband that I was going to make them do this. Aren't we cute?

Summer said the other two girls and I should get our picture like this also. The one in the red doesn't look all that thrilled. Wonder why?

Here we are holding our little snow bottle people. We did these together this year, I will be cleaning up glitter for many moons. Again I saw these over at Two Peas and my daughter has a magazine with them in it. I can't remember the name of it.

And here are the snow bottle people. The second and third from the left are my daughters, she has given them some unusual names. The second one is Peace Pimp and the third one is Snow Ho. I can't remember all their names. Mine is the tall one, his name is quite simply Mr. Winter.
